How To Wreck A Dragonfly
This summer, a MSR Dragonfly stove came back to us in pieces. It belongs to Maine High Adventure and they call it a prime example of unsupervised and/or unskilled use. The stove folds down into a storage position by flipping the burner upside down and collapsing the legs. On an outing, two of the youngsters were cooking, and although they had used the stove before, they failed to flip the burner out of the storage position before lighting it. One possible scenario is that the body of the stove had bent and flipping the burner was a challenge. How they managed to light it is a mystery, but they proceeded to boil a pot of water with the entire stove upside down! The flame was directed into the body of the stove and the bottom of the stove was completely vaporized. Parts of the sidewall also began to melt. Ultimately, nobody was injured, but the Dragonfly was destroyed.
